ONCE YOU'RE HERE...

We chose to get married in Telluride because it is one of our favorite places in the world! Though one weekend is nowhere near enough time to explore all the trails, restaurants and special spots, we hope you will see why we love it too! Here are some of our top places to check out while you are here.

HIKES

LOCAL FAVORITES:  these trails are all easily accessed by foot from Town or Mountain Village.

  • Jud Wiebe Trail - this is a trail literally right in the middle of town. It’s short with some nice incline to earn your lunch, with some great views of town at the top. It’s Chloe’s go to hike the day before the Imogene Pass race.

  • Bridal Veil Trail - a Telluride classic that leads to the iconic waterfall at the end of the box canyon which gives the trail its name.

  • Ridge Trail to See Forever Trail - starting at the base of the gondola in Mountain village, this trail takes you up to San Sophia station, right past our ceremony spot! From there you can take the “See Forever Trail”  to the tallest peak of the ski resort - it’s a long hike but the views are worth it!

OUR FAVORITES:  accessing these routes via car highly encouraged.

  • Lizard Head and Cross Mountain - located south of town, this mountain has an iconic shape suggestive of a lizard. The first time Zach and I hiked this was with Anna Turner - we got caught in a thunderstorm and had to run the whole way down!

  • Ajax Peak - We had to include our sweet husky’s name sake! This is a challenging hike that is not for the faint of heart! If you have a 4 wheel drive vehicle you can drive up Black Bear Pass Road from the Telluride side a bit to shorten the total mileage. The views at the top are incredible!

  • Blue Lakes Trail - Similar to Ajax peak - this is a hike that will begin up Black Bear Pass Road, past Bridal Veil Falls. This is a challenging hike with a lot of elevation gain- so pack lots of snacks and water!

  • Wilson Peak - If you MUST get a 14-er in while you are in the area - this one is a good one to tackle! Mt Wilson and El Diente are also good options. 4 wheel drive vehicle recommended.

  • Sunshine Peak - Stunning views of the Lizard Head wilderness, this is another great option close to town if you are looking for a challenging day hike.

OTHER THINGS TO DO:  we don’t just hike y'all!

  • Walk around main street and window shop - One of Chloe’s favorite post hike activities is grabbing lunch and strolling through town, to pop into a few art galleries and boutiques. Definitely check out Crossbow to window shop and South Fir Street Gallery.

  • Telluride’s Via Ferratta - If you are feeling adventurous and you aren’t afraid of heights - definitely give this one a go!

  • Visit Ouray Hot Springs and explore the historic town. Just an hour drive from Telluride, Ouray is a hidden gem and its historic hot springs have been a centerpiece of the town since the 1920’s. If you are on the fence about it, the drive itself is also pretty spectacular.

DINING

BREAKFAST & LUNCH

  • Baked in Telluride - Located in the heart of downtown Telluride, this is the spot for a sweet or savory breakfast treat. They make all their baked goods fresh daily.

  • Butcher & Baker - Great breakfast and lunch spot that serves seasonal specials; perfect spot for a post hike cocktail!

  • LIZ - this is Chloe’s favorite spot for lunch. They have lots of vegan options (but don’t let that deter you!)  Get the aperol spritz!

  • Brown Dog Pizza

DINNER

  • 221 South Oak - Located in a historic home a block from the Gondola, this is our go-to spot when we are feeling “ a little fancy”. The food is creative, seasonal and always delicious.

  • The Grand - Classic steak restaurant with New American offerings as well; you can’t go wrong.

  • Uno Dos Tres Tacos + Tequila - Exactly what the doctor ordered when you are exhausted after a long day and all you want is some comfort food that comes in the form of queso and margaritas.

DRINKS

  • Van Atta - A speakeasy style bar, that is located in the back of the historic 1886 “Van Atta” Dry goods & Clothing store. FYI - the space is tiny, so plan accordingly!

  • The Last Dollar Saloon - Arguably one of the best venues in town - grab a beer and sit on the roof top to take in the mountain views.

  • New Sheridan Historic Bar - listen to their live music and to try Telluride’s signature take on an espresso martini, “The Flatliner”
